Charitable Contributions of Grain

Many grain farmers are anticipating unusually high income tax liabilities when they file their 2011 tax return. Even if they did not have a bumper crop, grain prices have been well above normal for the year. If a farmer is charitably minded, this would be a good year to consider making a donation of grain to their favorite church or charity. The tax advantages of donating commodities far outweigh those for a contribution of cash.

Rod Webel Memorial Scholarship Application

The Two Rivers Farm Bureau Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified student graduating from a Pike County high school in memory of Roderick Webel. Rod was a valued leader of the Farm Bureau and Pike County’s agricultural community. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior pursuing an education at a technical school, community college, college, or university of their choice. There is no course of study restriction but a major in agriculture will be given preference over other majors in the selection process. Preference will also be given to a Griggsville-Perry High School student. Selection will be based on the following: 1.     Applicant must be a member or the dependent of a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau;2.     Scholarship as evidenced by the applicant’s ACT/SAT score and a minimum 3.00 GPA (4 point scale);3.     Leadership, School, and Community activities; 4.     Two Letters of Recommendation from high school teachers or administrators; and5.     Completion of a short essay identifying why agriculture is important to your community.

Scott County Farm Bureau Scholarship

The Scott County Farm Bureau is again offering two $1,000 scholarships to qualified graduating students—one from Bluffs High School and one from Winchester High School.   The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior pursuing an education at a technical school, community college, college, or university of their choice. There is no course of study restriction but a major in agriculture will be given preference over other majors in the selection process. Selection will be based on the following:1.     Applicant must be a member or the child of a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau;2.     Scholarship as evidenced by the applicant’s ACT or SAT score and a minimum 2.50 GPR;3.     Leadership, School, and Community activities; and4.     Completion of a short essay identifying why agriculture is important to their community.
